Steve Jobs har tidigare hintat om att MobileMe kommer bli bättre under 2011. Nu börjar det ryktas om vad det innebär.

Ett envist rykte är att tjänsten kommer bli gratis och det är nog ganska troligt med jag gissar att det kommer en premiumversion också med extra lagringsutrymme eller extra funktionalitet.MobileMe ska bli navet för allt innehåll på din iPhone eller iPad. Man ska kunna komma åt sin musik, bilder och filmer som finns lagrade på sin dator direkt från iOS, MobileMe ska bli så snabbt (till skillnad från idag) att man inte kan skilja på lokalt lagrad media och streamad media. En fördel med detta är även att det skulle krävas mindre mängd minne i iPhone vilket skulle kunna pressa priserna på denna. Flashminnet är tveklöst en av dom dyraste komponenterna i just iPhone.
Tidigast i Juni kan vi vänta oss dessa nya funktioner, kanske krävs det OS X Lion?

Apple had planned for the service to be available a year earlier. The new service would give users access to their iTunes libraries from, say an iPhone or iPad, instead of requiring that the devices be synced by cable with a computer and use space to store the actual files, the people said. MobileMe blir socialt

TiPb.com talar även om ett mer socialt MobileMe med positioneringstjänster liknande Gowalla eller Facebook Places,  statusuppdateringar med mera. Risken finns att vi får se ett nytt Ping.
Är det nån av er som läser detta som använder Ping?

The webpage will collect a ton of information that is automatically uploaded from an iOS device, including the user’s location, photos they’ve taken and video they’ve shot. It will also detail music they’re listening to, games they’re playing, applications they’re using, music and apps they’ve purchased, web sites they’ve visited, status updates, and so on. iWork då?

Jag har inte hört nått om om iWork.com men det måste väl också ingå i planerna för nya MobileMe. Jag använder Gogle Docs nästan dagligen för att det är så smidigt och enkelt att alltid ha sina dokument till hands. Men som vanligt när det gäller Google så finns det mycket kvar att önska vad gäller gränssnitt. Något som Apple däremot är riktigt duktiga på.
Jag hoppas verkligen att Apple tar tag i iWork.com och bygger in det i MobileMe. Jag vill se iWork programmen i molnet, med automatisk lagring och sync mellan enheter. Skriver jag ett dokument på min dator så vill jag givetvis kunna fortsätta skriva på detta på min iPad utan att behöva synka och föra över filer manuellt.

Apple kommer att utföra underhåll på MobileMe apparna under kvällen och natten.

Mail och Kalendern har ju nyligen uppdaterats, är det dags för nästa app nu? Eller ska vi dra på ännu högre växlar och börja spekulera om huruvida detta har att göra med den molntjänst som Apple eventuellt arbetar på och eventuellt visar upp på onsdag?

Jag vet inte, men det är alltid spännande när Apple är i farten!

MobileMe kalender beta fungerar nu även med Outlook

Members using the new MobileMe Calendar beta can now view and edit their MobileMe calendars in Microsoft Outlook 2007 or 2010 using MobileMe Control Panel v1.6.1. The functionality is available even if you’re connected to a Microsoft Exchange server (Exchange calendar data is kept separate from MobileMe and can be viewed side-by-side on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and PC). To use Microsoft Outlook with the beta, follow these instructions.

Apple fortsätter utveckla MobileMe. Logga in på MobileMe, gå till kalendern och klicka på länken nere till höger så får du förhoppningsvis en inbjudan till att prova betan.

Den nya designen påminner mycket om iPad versionen, och är helt klart ett lyft mot tidigare version.

Beautiful new web application
The Calendar beta includes a new web application at me.com with great-looking calendar views. You’ll find redesigned day, week, and month views, as well as a new list view to make scanning your events easier. Your calendars will also load faster, thanks to improved performance. The new web application works best with Safari 5, Firefox 3.6, and Internet Explorer 8.

Share calendars with family and friends
You can easily share your calendars with one or more MobileMe members to keep everyone on the same page. For example, create a shared calendar called ”Kids” for school and weekend activities. You can allow the person you’re sharing a calendar with to edit events, and set up email notifications to tell you when they make a change.

Publish a calendar for a group or team
The Calendar beta lets you share a read-only public calendar that can be viewed by anyone, perfect for publishing an events calendar such as a soccer team schedule. After setting it up you can send the team members a link to view the calendar on their iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, or PC.

Event invitations with RSVPs
Inviting any guest to an event is easy from the MobileMe Calendar beta. Just add their email address to the event (they don’t have to be a MobileMe member) and your guests will get an invitation email they can respond to directly by clicking a link. Your event then automatically updates, making it easy to track RSVPs right in your calendar.

Works on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac
The MobileMe Calendar beta uses the CalDAV standard so you can view and edit your calendars using the built-in calendar applications on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac. Please note that support for PCs with Microsoft Outlook is coming soon.

To use the MobileMe Calendar beta, you need to be running iOS 4 on iPhone or iPod touch, iOS 3.2 on iPad, Mac OS X Snow Leopard version 10.6.4. For more details on system requirements and answers to other questions, please read this FAQ.

Apple har äntligen uppdaterat sin iDisk app. Nyheter är stöd för iOS4, äntligen stöd för iPad och mycket annat (se faktaruta nedan). iDisk på iPad känns snabb och riktigt nice men kommer uppdateringen för sent? iDisk har alltid varit en grym tjänst, i tanken. I verkligheten har den varit helt oanvändbar… Men det känns som om Apple är på gång, iDisk har blivit snabbare och snabbare och iPad versionen känns blixtsnabb! Annars är det ju Dropbox som dominerar i den här kategorin och länge varit avsevärt mycket snabbare än iDisk. Men nu blir det hårdtest av iDisk ett par dagar, sen återkommer jag med betyg!

Nya MobileMe mail innehåller en hel del nyheter. Även för dig som har provat betan.

Widescreen and compact views. When reading your mail at me.com, the new widescreen view lets you see more of each message with less scrolling. Choose compact view to hide your folders or classic view to see more of your message list.

Rules to keep your email organized everywhere. Mail rules help you reduce inbox clutter by automatically filing messages into folders you select ahead of time. Set them up at me.com, and your rules organize your incoming email on the web and everywhere else — on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, and PC.

Single-click archiving. Click the Archive button and the selected message is quickly filed into the Archive folder where it’s always available for future reference.

Formatting toolbar. You can create great-looking email messages using formatting buttons to bold or italicize text, change font color, insert images, and more. You can even create formatted web links to hide long URLs.

Faster performance. Mail at me.com loads your inbox and messages faster. And with interface refinements such as the ability to scroll through your entire inbox without having to manually click to load the next set of messages, you’ll be able to work more efficiently.

Increased security with SSL. With MobileMe Mail, accessing your email on the web is more secure than ever. Your inbox is protected to prevent anyone from eavesdropping on your webmail. You can receive email from another service by having the email forwarded to your me.com address.* And when you reply to a message using webmail, you can choose to send it from the address it was sent to, or from your MobileMe account.

Improved junk mail filtering (new since the beta). MobileMe Mail places suspected spam messages directly in the Junk folder. If you see an email that you actually want, click the ”Not Junk” button on me.com. MobileMe moves the message to your Inbox and makes sure that messages from that sender are not sent to your Junk folder again.

Find my iPhone App

Nu finns Find my iPhone i App store. Trots namnet fungerar den även med iPad och iPod Touch.

If you lose your iPhone or iPad while on the go, simply install the Find My iPhone app on any other iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to find it. Sign in with your member name and password to locate your missing device on a map and have it display a message or play a sound. You can even remotely lock the missing device to protect your privacy, or wipe it to permanently delete all of your data if you think that it won’t be returned.* The app will automatically sign you out after 15 minutes of inactivity or you can manually sign out at any time.

MobileMe

Nu är MobileMe uppe igen och jag fick rätt när det gäller beta-stämpeln på mailen, den är nu borta och alla har tillgång till den nya förbättrade webbmailen.

Utseendet har förändrats en del på MobileMe, när man växlar mellan programmen ser det ut som när du använder cmd+tabb för att byta program i OS X, snyggt!

Allt känns bra mycket snabbare och smidigare än tidigare. Find my iPhone har blivit en egen ”app”.

Uppdatering 9.31: Jag kanske var lite snabb med mitt omdöme, mailen är nu vansinnigt seg att komma in på, när man väl har kommit in flyter allt väldigt bra. Troligtvis ett tillfälligt problem.

MobileMe stäng ner under två timmar 17:e Juni kl 10-midnatt PDT, det vill säga Pacific Daylight Time, vilket borde bli 18:e Juni 07.00-09.00 för oss svenskar.

MobileMe members will be unable to access MobileMe applications at me.com. Access to MobileMe will still be available on desktop applications, iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. Normal service is expected to be restored at the end of the maintenance window. Från Apples supportsida för MobileMe

Kan vara en enkel uppdatering för att ge stöd för iPhone 4, men vi måste ju hoppas på mer. Det har ju ryktats om en del förändringar ett tag.

Personligen hade jag gärna sett en webbversion av iWork integrerat med övriga tjänster.

Kanske är det redan dags att ta bort beta-stämpeln från mailen och rulla ut den till massorna, den har känts väldigt stabil hela tiden.
